Pandit Dharam Prakash Sharma is a well-known film star, a prominent business executive and a member of the Indian Parliament. He was the only son of the chief priest of Pushkar Teertha (or tirth), Ajmer, Rajasthan. Pushkar Tirth is one of the only two temples in India dedicated to Brahma.

Even though Panditji was born in Pushkar Teertha, he had an intense hunger for the true living God. He was very much involved in all religious activities but he still did not have the real peace in his heart. He often wondered, “After all these fasts and religious ceremonies which I am performing every day, am I in right relationship with God? Is he drawing closer to me?”

A Mysterious Voice

In Agra University where he studied, he first heard about the “Sermon on the Mount” (Sermon on the Mount is an account of Jesus’ teaching found in the Gospel of Matthew in the Bible). He thought to himself, “I need not read the Bible as it is the religion of the British who ruled my country”. Both his parents were freedom fighters and went to jail to fight for India’s independence. But when he learnt that Mahatma Gandhi was greatly influenced by it, he decided to check it out. While he was reading it, he heard a mysterious voice saying, “I am the one whom you are searching from the childhood”. He was astounded and checked around the room but found no one. Again he heard the same voice. But he could see no one. Soon after that the whole room was lit with bright light. It was not any natural light he had seen before but a different kind of light. In it, he saw two hands stretched towards him and calling him. He was amazed by this and was very confused by this experience. He wanted to know who this Jesus Christ is. He immediately ran to his principal who was a Christian, the principal could not have answer for him, so he took him to a Roman Catholic Bishop who told him, “Only if you are a Christian, you can understand this”! He was very sad to hear this as he never could imagine becoming a Christian. He hated this religion to his core.

He started observing the lives of some Christian friends in his university.  But unfortunately he found that their lives did not match the teaching of Jesus Christ, he read in the bible. This intensified his hatred for the Christian religion. So he went to the library took three Bibles in different languages and burnt them. Few of his Hindu friends who watched, applauded him for the act.

Life continued on and he tried to forget this experience at the University and moved forward. He had a brilliant career first as a well-known film star, then a prominent business executive and finally as a member of the Indian Parliament.

His Life-Changing Experience

When he was on the peak of his career, one incident rocked his life. It occurred in prime of his political career. V.V.Giri was the President of India back then. The president was leaving in a train after one of his trip, there was a throng of people waving him goodbye on a railway station. While he was also standing and waving, he heard an audible voice, “Where is he going?” Panditji said, “Who?”

The Voice said, “Him, where is he going”.

Panditji said, “He is going to his home”.

The Voice asked, “where will he go from there?”

Panditji said, “He will leave this world and go as everyone has to go.”

The Voice asked, “Do you know where he is going?”

Panditji said, “No.”

The Voice said, “Do you know where you are going?”

Panditji said, “I am not sure.”

The Voice asked, “Where will you go from here?” “How will you enter into eternal life? How will you save yourself?”

He did not have any answers to all these questions. But he was reminded of a bible verse, he read during his college days. “Even if you gain the whole world and lose your own life….” (Bible). Right at that place, in the same moment he prayed to Jesus Christ and asked him to come into his life. At that moment, he felt as if a son has met his Eternal Father. He felt a divine love, peace and comfort in his heart. He found his Lord and God in Jesus Christ. He resigned from his political career. He felt even if I reach to the highest political career and not have the love of God, it is all meaningless.

India was going through a political emergency and Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister at that time. She requested Panditji to not leave politics but to help her in this time of emergency. But Panditji was determined. He also challenged her with the question, “Do you have the love and joy of the Lord?” She did not receive it positively and he left the office.

Purpose Driven Life

Pandit Dharam Prakash Sharma’s life is a living testimony of the quest for the living God, ultimately finding fulfillment, despite of all kinds of difficulties and opposition. It was through the spiritual strength of his wife Ashaji, which guided him to a very intimate relationship with the Lord and experience the true meaning and purpose of life. He has since devoted the rest of his life in sharing the Word of God and true meaning of atonement. Panditji has shared his entire testimony in a book ‘No greater love’.

Ten years after his knowing the living God and ten days before his father’s death, his father, Pandit Sohan Lal, told him, “My son, for ten years I have watched your life changed. You are on the true path and have found the way. Your Lord is my Lord too.”

Vedas and Doctrine of Sacrifice

Panditji says, “The desire of the Vedic rishis from ages were to seek the ultimate realization of the true God and His grace. The same desire of my own heart was fired through the power of this great good news of the heavenly Father and brought me at the feet of the eternal God.”

What the Hindu scriptures speak about Jesus? All mankind have sinned, having transgressed the law of God. Therefore, they devise various ways and means as to how to escape the wrath of God, and live. In our own country, the Brahmins perform sacrifices, and the non-Brahmins offer animals sacrifice.

An examination of the Vedas reveals that sacrifice is spoken of as the only means of salvation.

The above doctrines proclaimed by the Vedas emphasize that sacrifices should be the foremost of all penances that must be performed for the atonement of sins.

  1. Amen. Hallelujah.

If only men would humble themselves before the Lord and seek, He will reveal Himself. But that will only be done with a true heart of seeking after Him. Faith..

The pride of man and lack of faith, blocks God out.

I really loved reading this. Thank you for sharing. My testimony can be found on my website, serious-things.com.

    In love,

  2. It is only the fanatical mind that knows to provoke the minds of the followers of a different religion. It is only the mentality of the fools who do not go beyond any reasoning to claim that only their religion is superior and all other’s is inferior. It is this mentality alone that has created wars in different parts of the world which say they believe in God but fight wars in the name of god by whatever name he may be called.

  3. Praise to jesus. wow…. No .. words say about panditji & his testimony…. he is fully loaded with truth of Heavenly father ( jesus )

  4. Why are you so hell bet on making India the land of learned rishis into a fanatical land where only fanatics will live and there is no room for anyone else following any other religion? It is only because India has given room for the followers of other religion that Hindus are in a danger of becoming minorities in their own country for granting permission to followers of other religion to spread it at the cost of Hinduism. Can you explain how much of culture, love and moral values are there in countries that profess to guard their country with Christianity?

  5. I would like to comment on Ms. Kshama’s post. Our great rishis were earnest seekers of God. They were so desperate to know God, that some of them even abandoned their worldly comforts position and power, spent their entire lives in caves and jungles, practicing sever austerity like going without food and water. Finally they came up with a deep realisation which is stated in Brihadarnyakopanishad 1:23 as follows “Thamasoma Jyothirgamaya, Asathoma Sathgamaya, Mruthyuoma Amruthamgamaya” which means, “Lead me from darkness to light, from falsehood to truth and from death to eternal life” God answered their cry in the person of Jesus Christ who is the God Incarnate. Jesus stated “I am the light of the world, whoever follows me shall not walk in darkness”(John 8:12) ” I am the say, truth, and life, none shall come to God except through me” (John14:6) I am the resurrection and eternal life(John11:25). Jesus is not only for Christians, but he offered the ulitimate sacrifice of his own body as an atonment for the entire human race. And he commanded his disciples to preach this salvation all over the world not because they were fanatics, but wanted to save men from eternal destruction. Christians proclaim this truth at the risk of their lives not because they are fanatics, but because they have concern for the lost world in darkness. They want to manifest the love of God by serving the world. Do you know the role missionaries played in upliftging Indian languages and education? About 73 the dictionaries and grammarbooks were compiled by them. (I have proof).

Other religions also seek to convert people all over the world. Hindusim was preached in america by Swami Viverkananda, and many Christians followed him. acharya rajaneesh has an ashram and many follwers in US. Do you know how many hindu and Buddha temples are there in European countries and America. Why they do not oppose it? Because they are not narrow minded. They are not afraid that if some poeple follow Hinduism, Christianity is in danger. The world is slowly becoming one nation. Graduyally we might forget our national and religious identity. In near future their will be so much of shuffling of population. So please try to understand the truth and be more objective! You can contact me at regimjose@yahoo.com, if you feel like!

  6. Dear Sister Kshama.I understand your frustration. We are disturbed when someone says that what we are doing may not be the right way, when we are confident about it.The basis for that is we acquire knowledge through our parents and reading books and holy scriptures.Much knowledge comes through much reading and hearing to pundits/scholars.It is good to know because we should be serious about our life and afterlife. Now coming to your comment India is a land of rishis. You know the ulterior desire of a rishi is to know God reveal himself and the true way toMoksha.Even the Vedas teach the same,of how sins can be atoned to acquire eternal life.Bible shows clearly and even fulfil the Vedas in Jesus Christ.Christianity is not a religion it’s a way. Please be open minded and see what the Bible says.Bible says we are born in sin our good works, morals, ethic and culture cannot take us to God.I am sorry to say many christians are ignorant of Bible and lead a sinful life.Being born in one religion cannot make one good or sinless in sight of God because God is Holy we can know Him when we sincerly desire for Him.

  7. Really very inspiring testimony… I pray some day Ms. Kshama Shashidar may the truth of the living God

  8. Really very inspiring testimony… I pray some day Ms. Kshama Shashidar may know the truth of the living God, Jesus Christ.

  9. Dear Kshama, Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship with the only One God and His Son who died for the sins of the whole world. We love Him and all that we do flows out of the love for Him. It is not out of fear to please Him but out of love. This love first started from Him as God says in the Bible ‘God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life’ John 3:16. Just because one is born into a Christian family does not make him\her a Christian as much as a person born in a garage does not make him\her a car. It is only when we receive Him as our Lord and Saviour that we become Christians. It is about relationship. So one cannot judge the so called Christian nations as they are not walking with the Lord. Jesus loves you and always will no matter what you think of Him – Jasmine

  10. I believe in the testimony of brother Dharam Prakash Ji. What an eye opener for any Hindu or any other religious minded person, even the nominal Christians who only follow a religion called Christianity but not the Lord Jesus.

All I want to say and sign off is ” Only those who have a desire to know God or the fear of accepting & obeying HIM when HE makes himself known to us & commands us, will be with Him forever. God is not any fiction and those who have woken up or gained senses from the wine of madness and disillusionment this world has to offer, can realise this !!!! Many of us are arrogant, dishonest, disrespectful and unrealistic towards God and await or encounter a very humbling moment in our life when we finally realise the omnipotence of God. Most of the times its too late for us. However only those people would welcome and accept the message of Lord Jesus Christ who are wise and humble before God (even though the world considers them fools) . This is true wisdom and correct choice. Heaven or Hell is not a choice, it is the verdict that God will give and even a fool should understand this. But believing in the message of Salvation of Jesus Christ is a choice! the questions I leave for all those who have’nt made this choice yet … :
WHAT IS STOPPING YOU FROM IT ?
WILL IT HELP YOU SAVE YOUR SOUL?
HAS IT CONVINCED YOU ABOUT THE FORGIVENESS OF YOUR SINS?
IS IT BIGGER & MORE POWERFUL THAN GOD ?
HAVE YOU FOUND GOD IN IT?
WHAT IS IT? YOUR EGO? YOUR EMOTIONS? YOUR RELIGION? YOUR TRADITION? YOUR COUNTRY? YOUR FAMILY? YOUR FRIENDS? YOUR CULTURE? YOUR KNOWLEDGE? YOUR FAME? YOUR WEALTH? YOUR RELATIONS?

MY ANSWER TO MYSELF WAS NOTHING IS BIGGER THAN GOD WHO TRULY REVEALED HIMSELF THROUGH LORD JESUS CHRIST. I was stopped by many of these things too from coming to Lord Jesus but I praise and thank God that his grace was given to me to overcome and finally choose him and make a RIGHT CHOICE

God bless you all/ Br. Atul ( pl. visit http://www.humblebeginnings.in)

  11. Praise The Lord
We must thanks Jesus for such a wonderful live testimony as we are witness of God.
This is the difference between the other religion & christianity that we have testimony of Cross…while other religion dont have cross…
The cross on which our Holy Jesu died for our sins & we got peace & redemption coz there is power on cross….this is the power of cross…

We are children of Ressurected God Jesus….

We thank Him for sending such saints like pandit sharma ji….so that the name of Jesus should be glorified by each and every genitiles… May gis soul n spirit be rest in peace
    ……Amen
    Praise God !

  12. Truth is only god. In the verses of bible there is written follow my characteristics. I m your Shepherd.
I will be your care taker. He is……

  13. We Indians are religious as compared to other parts of the world. We have a rich heritage of religious and spiritual materials. However, many Indians either do not have access to or do not read the holy scriptures. We only know and claim that our religion is great. Moreover, primarily the scriptures are written in Sanskrit, an old language unfamiliar to ordinary people. Here, the experience of a person is shared in order to make others understand and not to make them inferior to their religion. British who ruled India are not the face of Christianity. They have not followed Christianity as they claimed to. Don’t you see many problems in Hinduism too where most parts of its population are treated lower than animals? Does it make Hinduism a bad religion ? I don’t think so.
